Wait With Certainty

Have you ever had to wait for something? Not like a day or two, but really wait. Just when you thought the waiting would end, it didn’t. There was just more waiting.

I have, and it is absolutely exhausting.

Jacob was a man familiar with waiting. Here’s the highlighted version of Jacob’s story: Jacob had to flee town to get away from his brother (who he slighted I might add). He arrived at his Uncle Laban’s house, where he saw the most beautiful girl. Think: Love at first sight. 😍 His uncle said that if Jacob worked for him for seven years, he could marry her. Jacob followed through with the promise, but Laban tricked him into marrying his other daughter, Leah. Distraught over what had happened, Jacob stayed for another seven years and then, with Laban’s permission, he married his true love, Rachel. Jacob had to wait 14 years to marry the woman of his dreams.

Imagine how desperate he felt. Working day after day only to fulfill his end of the deal but to land waiting. Sometimes it feels like that for us: waiting for a spouse, a job, a baby, a house, healing, or just something better. Just when it feels close, we realize it’s further than we think.

Is it a surprise to God though? No.

He is doing something.

David said in Psalm 27:13-14, “I am CERTAIN that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and courageous. Wait for the Lord.”

Think about that certainty. Are you certain you will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living? In Jacob’s waiting, he was certain that he would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living,” and he did, but in God’s time.

Abraham didn’t know where he was going, but he was “certain that he would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.”

Joseph who was sold into slavery by his brothers, also certain.

Job, who we talked about a few weeks ago, certain he would see the Lord’s goodness.

Noah was also certain.

There are so many people throughout Scripture (which is history I might add) who were certain they would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

And guess what? They did!! 🙌🏼 But… It didn’t look like what they had planned. It was much harder, longer, and bumpier than they could have imagined, but in the waiting, God was working. And guess what? Believe it or not, He’s working in your waiting too. Be certain that you will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living, friends, and wait for the Lord. Be strong and courageous in your waiting.

Have a nice week!
