When You're Feeling Down on Yourself

When you're alone with your thoughts, do you ever think…
I’m unworthy.
I need to do better.
I’m not doing enough.
If only I…
I'm an imposter. I shouldn’t be doing…
When I say I can relate, I mean it’s a real struggle sometimes. A few weeks ago, I was there: I was down on myself. Scripture says though “…to raise every thought against the knowledge of God — taking every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). That means what I feel and I know don’t always align, which is why we are called to raise every feeling or thought against Truth AKA God’s Word.
Sometimes our hearts and minds can trick us into feeling like we are unworthy. Those feelings don’t come from God though. The shame we feel, lies we believe, and deception we fall into come from the enemy. But reminder: in Christ, we are more than worthy and victorious! (Romans 8:37).
Friends, we must fill our lives with God’s Truth, as well as friends and mentors who understand the battle is not against flesh and blood. A few days after meeting with one of my mentors, I stumbled upon Psalm 19:14, and it hit me hard. It reads, “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” It was a gentle reminder of the softness that comes from The Shepherd’s voice and call. I wrote it out and hung it above my kitchen sink, as a reminder. However, a few days later, I was backing out of my driveway, when my spiral came back with a vengeance. My thoughts started racing, and from the back seat our middle child yelled from the back, “Mom, play Good Good Father! God is just so good!” Amen and thank You, I whispered.
The voice of the accuser and of the Father are starkly different. Let’s familiarize ourselves with our Good, Good Father, taking every thought captive and testing it against His Word. Additionally, may the words of our mouths, the meditations of our hearts, and the thoughts of our minds be pleasing and acceptable to God, our rock and our redeemer.
Have a great week, friends!
