Even if...

What’s your “even if…”?

You know, even if _________ happens, I will still follow God. Take a second to fill in that blank.

Even if I don’t get this promotion, I will still follow God.

Even if I never see this prayer answered, I’ll still trust Him.

Even if I can’t save my friend/family member from their decisions, God still has this. He has me.

What is your even if?

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three men who refused to bow down and worship a golden god created by King Nebuchadnezzar. The punishment of not bowing down was to be “...thrown into a furnace of blazing fire” (Daniel 3:6).

Even though these men knew the consequence of NOT bowing down, they remained faithful to God. They stood before Nebuchadnezzar and said, “If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. BUT even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up” (Daniel 3:17-18). At that, King Nebuchadnezzar demanded the incinerators be heated seven times more than customary. The fire was so hot that it killed the men escorting Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as they threw them into the fire.

Here’s the thing though, friends: When the king looked into the furnace, “...he saw four men, not tied, walking around in the fire unharmed” (Daniel 3:25).

God’s promise to never leave us or forsake us in Deuteronomy 31:8 is still true today. The beautiful thing is that God is true to ALL of His Words. Even when we’re in the fire of life, we can trust that He is there, right alongside us. The faith that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had here is inspiring. Even if God chose not to save them, they would remain faithful, despite the fear, dread, and pain they were about to experience. They had unshakable faith that rested in trust. We, too, can trust that despite what we walk through in this life, we are never alone. God is always with us, working. This week, let’s focus on finding God in the fire.

Have a great week, friends!
