We’ve been on vacation at one of my favorite places: the beach. I love everything from the sand to the heat. It’s so easy to look around at everything and find beauty. I feel the same way about nature - anywhere. I marvel at the beauty of the birds that fly by or call out, the misshapen leaves or stones I stumble across, and trees that lean imperfectly. It’s all beautiful. I know I’m not alone in that. Yet when we look at ourselves or maybe even others, we don’t see the same beauty.
Instead we critique every misshapen body part, roll, or piece of squish. We wish we were taller or shorter, had smaller or larger body parts, or even dislike our skin tone or body shape.
The next time we look in the mirror, let’s embrace the things that make us look unique: the freckles, the curves, the frizzy or poker straight hair, the blotches, the skin tone, and the misshapen areas of our bodies.
Let's remember, friends, that we were made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), that He knit us together in our mother’s wombs (Psalm 139:13), and that we are so loved (John 3:16). Lean into that this week and embrace your beauty. Have a great week!
